The newly constructed “Agra” Auditorium, the largest in the district and fully equipped with all modern facilities, was auspiciously opened on 15.05.2026 under the patronage of the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Mr. A.H.M.H. Abayaratne.
This auditorium is equipped with state-of-the-art technological equipment and is equipped with 1000 seats, a 24-meter long and 12-meter wide stage, sound control systems and stage lighting systems, as well as audio-visual and language translation facilities, and a cyclorama wide screen that projects 360-degree panoramic paintings used for drama and performance activities.
In addition, the auditorium has a VIP lounge, rest rooms for makeup artists, art galleries reserved for exhibitions on the upper floor, and this auditorium has been built in such a way that it can also be used as a meeting hall and a theater.
In order to make the District Secretariat located in the old Agra building more formal and a more effective administrative complex for the district, the need to establish such an auditorium within the District Secretariat premises as an essential element for artistic activities, cultural activities, and government sector events was emphasized.
The amount spent on this new auditorium, which was built under the provisions of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, is Rs. 720 million.
