In conjunction with the 78th National Independence Day, the Gampaha District Independence Day program was held ceremonially on the morning of February 04 at the District Secretariat premises under the patronage of the Chairman of the Gampaha District Coordination Committee/Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe.
At this, the Gampaha District Secretary/Government Agent, Mr. Lalinda Gamage, and the Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe respectively arrived at the ceremony on the red flag amidst the military salute of the student band. After the traditional hoisting of the national flag amidst the military salute, the children of Gampaha Takshila Vidyalaya sang the national anthem and Jayamangala Gatha.
Thereafter, the District Secretary, Mr. Lalinda Gamage and the Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe addressed the ceremony.
Simultaneously, a tree planting ceremony was also held by distinguished guests in the premises of the District Secretariat.
The event was attended by Venerable Theros and priests of all religions, Gampaha District Parliamentarian Lasith Bhashana, Gampaha Mayor Eric Ediriwickrama, Gampaha Additional District Secretaries J.W.S. Kithsiri, Asiri Weerasekara, Assistant District Secretary Nilanthi Kumari, Gampaha Divisional Secretary Nadeeshani Amarasinghe, Heads of Institutions of the District Secretariat, senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Police, and a group of government officials.
