In line with the national mission to build a clean culture and a clean Sri Lanka, the officers of the Gampaha District Secretariat took the oath/pledge at the District Secretariat on 27th July under the patronage of Gampaha District Secretary/Government Agent Lalinda Gamage.

With the aim of improving the quality, efficiency and transparency of the entire public service in Sri Lanka and building an exemplary administrative structure free from corruption, the National Clean Culture Week for a Clean Sri Lanka will be implemented from July 27 to July 31.

Additional District Secretary J.W.S. Kithsiri and all the staff were present on this occasion.

The newly established Gampaha District Secretariat Training Center on the upper floor of the 100-year-old Agra Walawwa was auspiciously opened on 18.06.2026.
In 2023, after the Gampaha Kachcheriya was established in the seven-story “Lak Siyane Mandira” building, the Agra Walawwa, which had been decommissioned, was completely renovated to preserve its antiquity.
As per the instructions and guidance of the Gampaha District Secretary/Government Agent Mr. Lalinda Gamage, this Walawwa was completely renovated and it was decided to establish the District Secretariat Training Unit on the upper floor of the Walawwa and to collect and maintain the legends and memories of the Gampaha District and Agra Walawwa in the lower floor as a museum.
Accordingly, the training unit, which was opened on 18.06.2026, consists of a computer lab with 25 computers and 02 lecture halls.
This ancient Agra Walawwa was built between 1925 - 1930 and its steps and ceilings are designed with beautiful wood carvings and ancient architectural styles.
Indian architects and workers have been employed for the construction of this Walawwa and this ancient Agra Walawwa, which belonged to the first Member of Parliament for the Gampaha District in the State Council, Mr. D.D. Karunaratne, was later taken over by the government. After being separated from the Colombo District and established as an administrative district of Gampaha, this “Agra” Walawwa was appointed as the Gampaha Kachcheri building in the year 1978.
The first film directed by veteran actor Gamini Fonseka in 1966, "Parasathu Mal", was shot at this Agra Walawwa.
Professor Samitha Manawadu, Professor of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa, provided the necessary consultancy for the renovation of this Walawwa, and the museum to be established on the ground floor of the Agra Walawwa in the future is also scheduled to be constructed under the consultancy of the professor.
The opening of this new training center was held with the participation of the Chairman of the Gampaha District Coordination Committee, Deputy Minister of Labor Mahinda Jayasinghe, District Secretary/Government Agent Lalinda Gamage, Professor of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa Samitha Manawadu, Additional District Secretaries of Gampaha, Deputy Election Commissioner Ravindra Wickramasinghe, heads of state institutions and a group of government officials in the district.
As the first training course, a training course on AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology was initiated for 20 government officials with special computer knowledge, including information technology officers. Expert external resource persons in the field were used for this.
In the future, it is expected that this Agra Walawwa will be provided with lecture halls and computer lab facilities for training courses in government institutions, public and private banks and the private sector. In addition, it is possible to reserve this hall for meetings of those institutions to view the historical architecture and unique wood carvings of the ancient Agra Walawwa, and the prices for this will be announced in the future. In addition, it is hoped that the Agra Walawwa will be made available for entertainment purposes such as films and teledrama, subject to conditions, and relevant information will be announced in the future, District Secretary/Government Agent Lalinda Gamage further stated at the media briefing.

The newly constructed “Agra” Auditorium, the largest in the district and fully equipped with all modern facilities, was auspiciously opened on 15.05.2026 under the patronage of the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Mr. A.H.M.H. Abayaratne.
This auditorium is equipped with state-of-the-art technological equipment and is equipped with 1000 seats, a 24-meter long and 12-meter wide stage, sound control systems and stage lighting systems, as well as audio-visual and language translation facilities, and a cyclorama wide screen that projects 360-degree panoramic paintings used for drama and performance activities.
In addition, the auditorium has a VIP lounge, rest rooms for makeup artists, art galleries reserved for exhibitions on the upper floor, and this auditorium has been built in such a way that it can also be used as a meeting hall and a theater.
In order to make the District Secretariat located in the old Agra building more formal and a more effective administrative complex for the district, the need to establish such an auditorium within the District Secretariat premises as an essential element for artistic activities, cultural activities, and government sector events was emphasized.
The amount spent on this new auditorium, which was built under the provisions of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, is Rs. 720 million.

The "Surakimu Lanka" national program, which was created with the aim of encouraging the public to use energy sparingly, was officially launched on April 29.
The primary objective of this is to create a community that carefully protects energy sources.
The government is implementing this program considering the possible disruptions to the country's energy and fuel supply due to the military situation in the Middle East region and the predictions of the upcoming "El Nino" weather conditions.
The government points out the dire need to use state resources with extreme frugality and transparency, and the main expectation is to get the public to contribute directly for national energy security.
This program is scheduled to be implemented for the next five months from April 29.
This program is implemented under the theme "Surakimu Lanka - Let's Join - Let's Shine" under the Clean Sri Lanka program, which is implemented with the vision of "A Prosperous Country - A Beautiful Life".
The participation of government and semi-government institutions as well as the private sector, civil society and the general public is expected for this.
The "Surakimu Lanka" program will encourage people to limit their electricity use during peak hours (6:00 PM to 10:00 PM) or to carry out electricity-intensive activities during the day as much as possible.

In conjunction with the 78th National Independence Day, the Gampaha District Independence Day program was held ceremonially on the morning of February 04 at the District Secretariat premises under the patronage of the Chairman of the Gampaha District Coordination Committee/Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe.
At this, the Gampaha District Secretary/Government Agent, Mr. Lalinda Gamage, and the Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe respectively arrived at the ceremony on the red flag amidst the military salute of the student band. After the traditional hoisting of the national flag amidst the military salute, the children of Gampaha Takshila Vidyalaya sang the national anthem and Jayamangala Gatha.
Thereafter, the District Secretary, Mr. Lalinda Gamage and the Deputy Minister of Labour, Mr. Mahinda Jayasinghe addressed the ceremony.
Simultaneously, a tree planting ceremony was also held by distinguished guests in the premises of the District Secretariat.
The event was attended by Venerable Theros and priests of all religions, Gampaha District Parliamentarian Lasith Bhashana, Gampaha Mayor Eric Ediriwickrama, Gampaha Additional District Secretaries J.W.S. Kithsiri, Asiri Weerasekara, Assistant District Secretary Nilanthi Kumari, Gampaha Divisional Secretary Nadeeshani Amarasinghe, Heads of Institutions of the District Secretariat, senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Police, and a group of government officials.

The "Green Team - Gampaha" team, which is jointly implemented by the Gampaha District Secretariat and the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat, has started its work for the year 2026. As a step to protect the ecological balance, the activities of cleaning, rearranging, replanting plants in places where there is space and planting betel saplings around the plants planted in the urban forests established within the Gampaha District Secretariat premises were carried out January 9th at the District Secretariat premises under the patronage of the District Secretary/Government Agent Lalinda Gamage.

The primary objective of this is to create an environment with mental well-being and minimize air pollution by planting a number of valuable plants such as Nedunum, Mee, Hora, Kumbuk, Kaluwara, Kok, etc., giving value to the environment and creating places with as much forest as possible in an environment with industrialization, technology and buildings.
The "Green Team - Gampaha" team of the "Green Team" program, which has been in operation since March 2024, is comprised of 40 volunteers and hardworking officers attached to the Gampaha District Secretariat and the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat. The event was attended by the Additional District Secretary, Gampaha Asiri Weerasekara, Gampaha Divisional Secretary, Nadeeshani Amarasinghe, Assistant District Secretary, Nilanthi Kumari, Gampaha Assistant Divisional Secretary, Upeksha Kapurubandara, Gampaha Agriculture Director, Sandhya Kumari, Administrative Officer, W.S.W. Rodrigue, and the "Green Team" team of the District Secretariat and Gampaha Divisional Secretariat.

The commencement of the 2026 New Year at the Gampaha District Secretariat was held on January 01st at 8.15 am under the patronage of the District Secretary / Government Agent Lalinda Gamage, giving priority to all religious observances.

Following the religious observances conducted by the Chief Sanghanayake of Siyane Korale, Venerable Thorapitiye Ananda Nayaka Thero and the Western Province Judicial Sanghanayake, Venerable Thalangalle Somasiri Na Thero, the Chief Sangha and Father Kavinda Fernando, the Maha Sangha chanted Pirith to bless all the staff of the Gampaha District Secretariat and the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat and the countrymen.

After hoisting the national flag, the District Secretary Lalinda Gamage declared that everyone would take the government pledge and dedicate themselves to public service. The District Secretary, who extended his greetings for the new year, stated that the Gampaha District received the highest amount of government allocation for projects last year and that ninety-eight percent of it was completed and that we will work with the same team spirit this year as well.

Kithsiri, Additional District Secretary (Land and Development) Asiri Weerasekara, Gampaha Divisional Secretary Nadeeshani Amarasinghe, Assistant District Secretary Nilanthi Kumari, officers representing all sections of the staff of the District Secretariat, as well as the heads and staff of institutions affiliated to other government ministries and departments established in the District Secretariat complex, were also present.
